After five days of sightseeing, it was time to go to the language school.

When I was a college student, I took part in English conversation lessons offered by the university, but this is the first time in my life that I have gone on a language exchange programme.

I thought I would be nervous, but I was not nervous at all and was able to spend two weeks concentrating on my studies.

I stayed in the school dormitory during my study abroad.

Dormitory for two people. Shared shower and toilet. Breakfast and dinner included.

I am a bit of a fastidious person, but it was surprisingly easy.

It was a new discovery for me that I can live in a place like this.

The teacher was quite questioning in class.

It was good to be in an environment where I had to speak English.

My classmates were from Italy, France, Belgium and Colombia .

I was surprised at how fluent their English was. So I thought that they won’t need to go to a language school.

I always think that travelled in Europe, I felt that most of the people were also available in English.I was amazed.

I was a bit disappointed at first because the school was a bit far from the centre of Manhattan, but the more I lived there, the more I liked it.

I found a favourite café and ordered a soyla latte every day to study.

I also enjoyed their quiche.

DUNKIN doughnuts, which originated in the USA, were also nearby, so I went there .

DUNKIN DOUGNATH

I had no classes on Saturday and Sunday, so I went to a baseball game again.

I went to cheer for two days in a row. Thanks to this, I got burnt black like a baseball boy’s arm😂

Drinking beer while watching baseball in the stadium was great .🍺

I don’t usually drink beer, but it was really good and I drank a liter of it.

I was able to spend very productive days during the second week of my study abroad.

I made an effort to study English as much as possible from morning till night.

There were also a lot of activities at my study abroad destination, such as musical theatre, sightseeing on the Liberty Cruise, and so on. Thanks to the activities, I was able to see an open-air film that I had always wanted to see 😎💓✌️ every day.

Under the summer stars, we watched “The Lion King”.

During my study abroad, breakfast and dinner were included in the price and I ate in the cafeteria.

I often walked to a nearby acai bowl shop for lunch.

I have longed to study abroad since I was in high school, but I was too timid to take on the challenge due to fear and financial constraints. I am very glad that I was able to take up the challenge this time. I’m not sure if my English has improved or not.

After two weeks of language study, I moved back to the centre of Manhattan for sightseeing.

We got off at Grand Central Station, which has appeared in many films, and first went to the hotel to drop off our luggage.

A colleague of mine recommended me to watch a film about Grand Central Station, but I couldn’t find it on Netflix…I’m posting it here so I don’t forget.

I arrived at the hotel at around 11am and went to a doughnut shop called “Dough Doughnuts”, which I was curious about because I hadn’t eaten anything until then.

This is the donut shop where Noriko-san, who appears in the manga ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, sneaks along with Ichimura-san, who fell in love , and goes there to eat.

(I’ve left all the manga at home, so I can’t check it right away…)

It was fluffy, sweet and happy. It was not too sweet and I snacked on one.🍩

After a short break at the hotel, hurry on to your next destination.

Jazz Bar

I wanted to hear jazz music that originated in the USA, so I did some research and found out that a Japanese drummer was playing at Lincoln Centre.

Of course, I am not an expert in jazz, but the atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxing. I have also found my next trip to the birthplace of jazz, the New Orleans. A cheese plate and a glass of wine.

Next, I went to the American Museum of Natural History. I made an online reservation and watched the planetarium. It was Sunday and there was a long queue in front of the museum.

I had booked the planetarium for 12.00pm, but I didn’t make it in time for 12.00pm, so I was sobbing, but they put me in for the next lecture.

I like looking at the stars, so I try to visit the planetarium whenever I can. It’s big and I can not only look at the stars, but also learn about them with explanations.

In addition to the $30 admission fee, I paid $6.

There were many animal exhibits and I was amazed at how realistic they all were.

To be honest, the museums I have visited so far seemed nothing to me. It’s a sight to behold.

When I came to myself, I realised that I had been there for five hours, having forgotten how hungry I was, and went to a nearby bagel shop for lunch and dinner.

Manhattan view

This is probably the view you imagine when you think of New York.

The view from here is invigorating. While I was a university student, I lived in Tokyo, so I felt nostalgic.

I have been using a Manhattan Portage backpack since I was a high school student, and have been using the same one for ten years now. I used to carry a 7 kg backpack with a charted dictionary and a Genius paper dictionary, a water bottle, writing materials, etc., but it was sturdy and unbreakable.

Bakery

A bakery near the hotel. I went there for breakfast.

That store is open in London, too.

The shop was quite crowded and the seats were occupied, so we shared a table.

Bread made of croissant dough with a chocolate coating.

Very tasty.

New York Public Library

Even when travelling, I carry reference books and books that I can read, even though they are heavy, because I like to spend my time in the same way as in everyday life.

On this day I ate bread and then went to the New York Public Library to work with the locals. I felt very comfortable and would go here every day to study if I could.

The room is rechargeable, the desks are spacious and the chairs are large. As can be seen from the photo, the ceiling is open, and the paintings are beautiful. Also known as the setting for various films.

I went to the cake shop that was introduced in Bilingual Girl Chika’s video .

It was located near the library. I tried to go there in the morning, but couldn’t sit down because the seats were fully booked, so I tried again! I was lucky to be able to sit in the evening.

It was delicious, with just the right amount of bitterness from the green tea and sweetness from the cream💓.

I enjoied my dinner at the Oyster Bar in the basement of Grand Central Station.

I ate white wine and oyster and tomato soup.

Day21

This was the last day in New York!

After packing up and checking out of the hotel, I went for a walk in Central Park. I was surprised to see pedestrian crossings and traffic lights in the park.

There were also fountains and benches in Central Park, where some people were reading books, walking their dogs or practising their violin.

Cookies

My hotel was very close to Times Square, and I walked from there through Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was quite tiring, so I went to buy chocolate chip cookies to take a break.

I have a sweet tooth, and so I did some research to find out all I could about New York’s food, and discovered that the city is famous for its chocolate chip cookies!

I ran into the famous shop just near the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It was quite crowded inside, and I could see New Yorkers walking around with coffee in one hand and chocolate chip cookies in the other, heading somewhere.

I thought chocolate chip cookies would be the same , but … .

Anyway, they are heavy and chunky!

Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. The chocolate was melted a little on the inside and it was really good.

This shop’s merchandise can also order online.☞Shipping | Levain Bakery

Breakfast At Tiffany’s

New York is famous for this film …. Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I love the opening scene where Holly eats a croissant in front of the show window of the Tiffany & Co. head store in New York, and I’ve watched it over and over again. When I was a university student about 20 years old, I used to listen to ‘Moonriva’ every morning. It makes me feel like I’m starting a good day.

On the way home, I stopped by the Tiffany & Co. head store, which has toilets on every floor except the ground floor, which is spacious, clean and impressive.

The floor was made of marble in a colour similar to Tiffany blue, and the walls were designed with same coler tiles.

I would love to buy some jewellery from this shop someday.

The manuscript of Breakfast at Tiffany’s was on display.

I also visited Holly’s house, which is a bit far from the Tiffany shop .

This one seems to be available for rent for tourists! ✨

It’s amazing .

Kinokuniya New York — Kinokuniya USA
Shop from one of our US-based bookstores for manga, comics, books, stationery, and gifts! Many of our products are provi...

I was very happy because there are no books in Japanese in the UK.

The shop was spacious and the entire second floor was filled with manga.

It was translated into English. When I travel abroad, I often stop by local bookshops, and manga is sold in every shop, which really makes me feel that Japanese culture is wonderful. However, I was really surprised to see Kinokuniya in New York, as all the bookshops only have three volumes. Every manga has all the volumes!

There was also a kind of shop on the second floor, where fruit sandwiches and rice balls were sold, which made me feel at home just looking at them.

I wonder if there will be a Kinokuniya bookshop in London.

Italian-bar

On the last day in New York, I had a hard schedule, I went to a women’s basketball game in Brooklyn in the evening, then went back to the hotel to pick up our carry-ons in the centre of Manhattan, and then to JKF airport.

The evening flew by while I was sightseeing.  I had some time before the evening basketball game, so I had white wine and salad at an Italian-bar.

I waited until the basketball game was about to start, reading Haruki Murakami’s book of essays, “Afternoon on Langerhans Island”, which I bought at Kinokuniya book shop.

Basketball games

New York Liberty VS Dallas Wings

All the players were powerful and cool, but I kept my eyes on ‘Courtney Vandersloot’, the #22 guard on the Liberty team. She is slender, but she can easily overtake the other team’s players and score points.

Even as an amateur, I could see that he was making an outstanding contribution to the team. I felt the same way when I was watching the baseball game, but the reaction of the local people was good and it was very enjoyable to watch.

Conclusion

I am very glad that I was able to stay in the USA for such a long period of time.

I enjoyed it so much that it passed in the blink of an eye. I know it’s an exaggeration, but my values have changed. I will definitely go back!

At the airport, I bought some snacks, which were a bit expensive, and had a drink in the plane. Luckily, the seat next to mine was empty and I was able to sit by the window.

After take-off, I could enjoy the night view of Manhattan for a while.
